Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, 81, is hospitalized with pneumonia and remains in critical but stable condition, his spokesperson confirmed May 4.
Spokesperson Ted Goodman said in a post on X that Giuliani was placed on mechanical ventilation after the illness overwhelmed his body, complicating a preexisting restrictive airway disease tied to his exposure near the World Trade Center after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks. Giuliani is now breathing on his own, Goodman said.
“Mayor Giuliani is the ultimate fighter — as he has demonstrated throughout his life — and he is winning this battle,” Goodman said. “His family deeply appreciates the outpouring of love and support. The mayor believes in the power of prayer, and we are feeling that strength today.”
According to the Palm Beach Post, Giuliani is reportedly being treated at Good Samaritan Medical Center in West Palm Beach.
Goodman first announced May 3 that Giuliani was in the hospital but didn’t provide details. The news came shortly after Giuliani hosted his online show “America’s Mayor Live” from Palm Beach on May 1, where he mentioned he was “under the weather” and spoke with a raspy voice, AP News reported.
President Donald Trump on May 3 confirmed Giuliani, a longtime friend and his former attorney, had been hospitalized. He called Giuliani “fabulous,” a “True Warrior,” and “the Best Mayor in the History of New York City, BY FAR” in a Truth Social post.
“What a tragedy that he was treated so badly by the Radical Left Lunatics, Democrats ALL — AND HE WAS RIGHT ABOUT EVERYTHING!” Trump added. “They cheated on the Elections, fabricated hundreds of stories, did anything possible to destroy our Nation, and now, look at Rudy. So sad!”
Trump announced in September 2025 that he would award Giuliani the Presidential Medal of Freedom, FOX News reported.
This is Giuliani’s second hospitalization in recent months. According to FOX, he suffered a serious back injury, fractured vertebrae, and other injuries in a September 2025 car crash in New Hampshire as a passenger.
